About the Garner Real Time Information Center

The Real Time Information Center (RTIC) is a dedicated operational unit within the Garner Police Department that brings together technology, trained personnel and data to support officers and decision makers in real time. Rather than replacing traditional policing, the RTIC enhances the department's existing capabilities by giving officers and supervisors immediate access to information that improves safety outcomes for both officers and the community. It is further designed to support fire and rescue services, public works and special-event coordination through real-time information sharing and data-driven decision making.

Six Pillars of RTIC Approach

Improve Public Safety Response and Efficiency

Provide officers, firefighters, dispatchers and emergency personnel with real-time information that improves operational effectiveness, emergency responses, response times, situational awareness, resource allocation and coordination during incidents and public events.

Protect and Support Our Officers
Reduce unknown risks to officers on every call as much as possible, providing officers better information before they arrive, while they are on scene and as situations develop around them.
Support Crime Prevention and Investigations
Use data analysis, camera systems and investigative technologies to identify crime patterns, develop leads and deter criminal activity.
Ensure Transparency and Accountability
Protect civil liberties and ensure all technology use is for authorized public safety purposes, governed by policy, legal standards, cybersecurity protections and ethical oversight that balances public safety needs with individual privacy rights.
Engage Our Community
A successful RTIC requires strong community understanding and public trust. The goal is to clearly communicate that RTIC technologies are intended to deter criminal activity, improve emergency response and support public safety.
Supports Planning & Resource Investment
The RTIC is not only an operational tool; it is also a planning asset. The RTIC represents a long-term investment in public safety infrastructure and operational efficiency. By aggregating real-time data and operational intelligence, the RTIC gives the Town up-to-the-minute insight into community safety trends, enabling more informed decisions about resource allocation and future investment in public safety.
