What is Community Risk Reduction (CRR)?
CRR is the identification and prioritization of risks followed by the coordinated application of resources to minimize the probability or occurrence and/or the impact of unfortunate events. Essentially, it means we will take a more proactive role in our commitment to the improvement of service delivery to citizens, visitors, and our own first responders.
CRR Captain Don Johnson
Captain Johnson functions as our Captain of Community Risk Reduction and he is challenged with examining, identifying, assessing, and creating solutions for the risks within the community and the fire department through the development of programs, procedures, policies, and educational materials. We do this best by interacting with you!
Citizens Fire Academy
The purpose of the Garner Fire-Rescue Department Citizens Fire Academy is not to train an individual to be a firefighter, but to inform our citizens, foster long-lasting relationships with our community residents and create partnerships that are mutually beneficial.
Primary goals of the Citizens Fire Academy:
• Educate our local citizens through a series of classroom and hands-on exercises utilizing the resources and manpower of the Garner Fire-Rescue Department, Wake EMS and various other organizations.
• To explain the tactics and strategies of firefighting and rescue, along with the dangers and benefits inherent to this type of service.
• To provide insight into the inner workings and administration of the Fire-Rescue Department and to better inform the residents of Garner about the variety of services provided to our community.
• To offer insight as to the knowledge, training, and skills necessary to serve our public as firefighters.
• To better prepare our citizens of the Garner community to react properly in the event of a fire or medical emergency.
• To encourage our Academy participants to return to their organizations, neighborhoods, and families to share information that will develop more safety-conscious citizens.
• To provide an interactive forum where the Garner Fire-Rescue Department and our citizens can share information and concerns.
Juvenile Firesetter & Intervention Program
Garner Fire-Rescue Department provides youth firesetter intervention education by request only. Families will learn safe and responsible behaviors related to fire use in the home as well as financial, emotional and social consequences of fire-setting. Your child could change their lives and the lives of everyone around them with a single strike of a match.
