Project Scope: This project includes a new inclusive playground at the Garner Recreation Center campus. The playground features various inclusive elements that provide play opportunities for children of all abilities. Components of the playground include a zero-entry merry go-round, slides and climbing structure, swings, and play panels. A rubberized safety surface will ensure ease of access for children and their caregivers using mobility aids. The project also includes a youth-scale climbing wall already installed at the GRC.

Funding Sources: 2021 Park Bonds; N.C. Parks & Recreation Trust Fund Accessibility for Parks grant; National Recreation & Park Association Youth Equity Grant; and Parks Fee-in-Lieu Fund

Design Consultant:  TranSystems (site design) and Barr’s Recreation (playground design)

Current Status (updated August 2025): Anticipated start of playground construction is Fall 2025.
