Animal Control Offers Guidance on Sick Wildlife

Residents Also Urged to Make Sure Pets Are Up to Date on Vaccinations

Post Date:04/01/2019 2:11 PM
As we enter the spring, we usually experience an increased amount of wildlife movement around the area.

So far in our early spring, we have seen a substantial amount of sick wildlife in the environment and our neighborhoods. This is not just limited to the Garner area but is true for Wake and surrounding counties as well.

Most of the sick animals have been foxes and raccoons that have distemper—not rabies. Distemper is always present in the environment. However, this spring has seen a higher-than-normal number of sick animals.

Please have Animal Control dispatched as soon as possible if you see any wildlife that appears sick or is acting strangely. You can do this by calling 911.

Also, as a reminder, please make sure your pets are up to date on all of their vaccinations, especially if they live outdoors or spend a significant amount of time outdoors where interaction with wildlife is a possibility.
