New Estimate Shows Annual Population Growth of 6.2 Percent
According to the latest estimate from the Town's Planning Department, Garner's population stood at 32,299 as of Dec. 1. That's up from an estimated 30,400 last December for an annual population increase of 6.2 percent. Garner's population has grown by over 10 percent in the last two years.
To arrive at its population estimates, the Planning Department uses data from the Office of State Budget and Management and U.S. Census Bureau as well as other information such as figures on recently issued certificates of occupancy for new homes. The Town has seen a dramatic spike in those certificates in 2018, as the chart below indicates.
