Post Date:07/12/2018 2:58 PM
UPDATE, JULY 16: The fox believed to be the same animal referenced in this original report was captured over the weekend and tested positive for rabies. The Garner Police Department and Animal Control would like to remind residents that if they see or encounter an animal acting strangely or aggressively, they should call 911 in order to have an animal control officer and/or police dispatched.

The Garner Police Department and Animal Control have reported an aggressive gray fox in the vicinity of the 200 block of New Rand Road and are urging residents in the area to exercise caution.
A resident on the 200 block of New Rand was bitten by a fox last night at approximately 11 p.m. Garner Police and Animal Control have been actively searching for the animal but have been unsuccessful so far in locating and capturing it. There have been no reported sightings of the fox today (Thursday, July 12) as of 2 p.m.
While it is not yet known whether the animal is rabid, residents in the affected area are urged to have heightened awareness when outdoors and to exercise caution if they see a fox or any other wild animal. If residents do see a fox in the area, they are asked to call 911 in order to dispatch police and Garner's animal control officer.
