The Garner Police Department held its annual Shop with a Cop program on Dec. 17. With the generous support of the longtime primary sponsor, TT&E Iron and Metal, the Police Department was able to provide a Christmas shopping trip for 10 families and a total of 35 children. With the support of area businesses, the children got breakfast and had a chance to visit with Santa and Mimi the Clown before going shopping with volunteers from the Police Department, Garner Police Athletics and Activities League, the Garner Citizens and Police Together team, United Way of the Triangle and the Eaton Corporation.
New for this year, each child got books to take home as part of the Trunk of Books program partnership between the Police Department, Garner PAAL, United Way and Eaton. Through a partnership with Youth Thrive of Wake County, the Police Department is committed to helping local youth be on reading level by third grade.
The Police Department would also like to thank Walmart, McDonald's, Angie’s Restaurant, Mimi the Clown and Community of Hope Ministries for their support of Shop with a Cop.
