Town Wins Another Award for Economic Development Brochure
The Town of Garner continues to accumulate honors for its broad array of communications products and initiatives. Most recently, Town staff received an Award of Merit from the Southern Economic Development Council (SEDC) for the Economic Development Department’s “Garner: A Great Place to Be” brochure.
The publication won in the general purpose brochure-small division category, along with an international business guide produced by Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation/Global Tampa Bay. The Town was presented the honor at the SEDC’s 2017 Communications Awards and Community Economic Development Awards, held during the organization’s annual conference in Charlotte earlier this month.
The Town’s 20-page, full-color brochure offers economic development prospects and clients an overview of Garner’s economic vitality and superior quality of life. The brochure was first published in 2015, and a second edition was produced last year. The first edition of the brochure won an Award of Excellence from North Carolina City and County Communicators in April 2016.
Economic Development Director Joe Stallings, Assistant Town Manager-Development Services John Hodges and Communications Manager Rick Mercier worked with Raleigh-based Liaison Design Group on the brochure’s design and content.
“This is a great example of how we collaborate internally and occasionally with outside vendors to create exceptional promotional materials that raise Garner’s profile and image,” Mercier said.
The entries in the SEDC competition were judged on graphic appeal, clarity of message and quality of information. The judges included economic development consultants and design professionals from across the southern United States.
The Town has produced a limited number of print copies of the brochure. However, the publication is available online and has had over 1,750 views.
The SEDC is the oldest and largest regional economic development association in North America. It has more than 900 members in 17 states.
