Post Date:07/19/2017 8:57 PM

Improved Nature, a start-up company that manufactures soy-based meat substitute products, began production this week at its new 30,000-square-foot facility in Garner.

The company expects to hire 30 to 35 employees initially, but employment at the current facility on Vandora Springs Road could grow to about 70, said Improved Nature CEO Rody Hawkins. Initial investment in the facility is approximately $3 million.

The plant can produce 10 pounds of meat substitute product per minute, Hawkins said. When hydrated, the soy-based products increase four-fold in weight.

“Improved Nature is an innovative company whose technologies will help feed the world’s burgeoning population—now at 8 billion and growing—in a sustainable and responsible way,” Hawkins says.

“We are excited to locate our first production facility in Garner,” he added. “We know by locating in Garner that we will have access to valuable partnerships and a great workforce that will help us stay competitive in the marketplace.”

“Recruiting innovative companies that are coming up with new technologies is imperative for creating a diverse 21st-century economy,” Garner Economic Development Director Joe Stallings said. “We are fortunate to have Improve Nature in our community. The locating of Improved Nature in Garner is another example of the importance of having a great location with access to top talent.”
