The following is a news release from NCDOT issued on Sept. 5:

Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation plan to close multiple roads and ramps beginning next week as part of the ongoing bridge replacement project on N.C. 50 (Benson Road) over U.S. 70. 

Crews will close Umstead Lane, the U.S. 70 West on-ramp, the westbound U.S. 70 loop and Hilltop Avenue at 9 a.m. Monday, weather permitting. The closures are expected to remain in place continuously until early November.

Detour information:

• Traffic for the U.S. 70 West on-ramp for N.C. 50 (Benson Road) will continue northbound to West Garner Road, turn left on West Garner then take Vandora Springs Road and follow detour signs to access U.S. 70 West.

• Traffic for the U.S. 70 West off-ramp to N.C. 50 South will continue to Vandora Springs Road, turn right on Vandora Springs then right on West Garner Road and follow detour signs to N.C. 50 South.

NCDOT urges drivers to slow down, remain alert and follow posted detour signs while traveling through the work zone.
