Town Hall to Reopen to the Public on Monday, June 1

Post Date:05/28/2020 5:28 PM

Garner Town Hall will reopen to the public on Monday, June 1 at 8 a.m. The building has been closed to visitors since late March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A number of safety-enhancing measures are being introduced to combat the spread of the coronavirus. These measures include:

  • additional barriers between staff and visitors at the Bill Payment windows and the Development Services intake area;
  • floor markings that indicate 6 feet of separation in the lobby area near the Bill Payment windows;
  • spacing out of chairs in lobby areas to maintain at least 6 feet of separation;
  • a limit to the number of people allowed in the Development Services intake area at any one time;
  • hand sanitizer stations in public areas;
  • signage throughout the building encouraging visitors and staff to remember their 3 W’s: wear a face covering, wait 6 feet apart and wash hands often or use hand sanitizer.

Staff will regularly clean and sanitize frequently touched surfaces throughout the building. They will also be encouraged to wear face coverings. Some staff, especially personnel who work at the Bill Payment windows, may also wear gloves.

Visitors who want to make bill payments but do not wish to enter the building can use the drop-off box outside Town Hall to the left of the building entrance near the bicycle rack. And visitors who want to submit materials to Development Services (Planning, Inspections or Engineering) can still make use of the drop-off stations in the vestibule of the Town Hall entrance.

The Town will continue to limit public gatherings when possible. As a result, the June 1 Town Council meeting will be held remotely starting at 7 p.m. Staff also will hold a virtual Pop-Up Town Hall meeting on the proposed fiscal year 2020-21 operating budget on Tuesday, June 2 at 2 p.m. Both of these virtual events will be live streamed at facebook.com/townofgarner
