Town Hall and other indoor facilities will be closed Friday, April 19 in observance of Good Friday, but regular solid waste collection will occur as usual. On Monday, crews will resume the special spring trash/yard waste pickup. We still need to complete yard waste collection in areas south of Poole Drive but north of Timber (portions of gold and green routes). Crews also need to pick up mattresses, electronics, TVs and tires in various parts of town. For more information about any waste collection matters, please contact Public Works at (919) 772-7600 Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (closed Friday, April 19).

Jackie Robinson—A Game Apart

Presented by Garner PAAL in partnership with Garner Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources, acclaimed actor and playwright Mike Wiley is bringing educational theatre to young audiences and communities across the country. A Game Apart provides a glimpse of Jackie Robinson’s life during a bygone era of separate and unequal locker rooms, of whites-only hotels, and of restaurants with only a back door for African American athletes to enter. Witness the hopeless humiliation of a star player who was showered with adulation on the field and became a second-class citizen when he walked off the diamond. Meet Jackie’s compatriots fighting the same battles between the end zones, inside the ring and around the track. A Game Apart is a powerful lesson of courage through dedication, perseverance and leadership.

TICKETS:  Free admission but a ticket is required. You can pick up tickets at the Garner Police Department, 912 7th Ave. Garner, NC 27529 any weekday between 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
