White Deer Park Has Full Slate of Activities in October

The Town of Garner's White Deer Park has plenty in store in October:

Oct. 4: Sneaky Spiders Discovery Days – Homeschoolers and students who are tracked out are invited to join us for self-guided science and nature activities. An adult must accompany students at all times. Drop in from 10 a.m.-noon Ages 6-12. Free.

Oct. 6: Big Sweep/Litter Sweep – Volunteers are needed to clean up the watershed and shore of Lake Benson. You will get a T-shirt or tote bag, breakfast, and the satisfaction of making the world cleaner and healthier! Please register in advance by calling Stephanie Shaffer (919-661-6892, or sshaffer@garnernc.gov). You may also register onsite at the White Deer Park Nature Center on the day of the event. 8:30 a.m. Free.

Oct. 11: NEW! Toddler Nature Time – Discover the natural world through hikes, stories, and crafts. Dress for the weather. An adult must accompany children at all times. Pre-registration is required. 10-10:45 a.m. Ages 2-3. $3/Garner resident; $5/nonresident.

Oct. 14: Super Spiders Family Program – Discover the amazing life of spiders and why they are not so scary after all, then spin a "webby" wonderful craft. Dress for the weather. An adult must accompany children at all times. Pre-registration is required. 2-3 p.m. Family program. $5/family, Garner resident; $7/family, nonresident. Location: Lake Benson Park, Shelter #1.

Oct. 18: NEW! Movie Discovery Day – Watch the movie "Creepy Creatures" and get a sheet of fun activities to do at home! An adult must accompany students at all times. 10 a.m. 70 minutes. Ages 6-12. Free.

Oct. 24: Preschool Nature Nook – Enjoy stories, songs, games, crafts, and outdoor exploration. Dress for the weather. Pre-registration is required. 10-11 a.m. Ages 4-5. $5/Garner resident; $7/nonresident.

Oct. 31: Trick or Treat the Trails – Put on your costume and trick or treat your way around our one-mile loop trail. Garner area community organizations will be passing out treats. An adult must accompany children at all times. Overflow parking at Lake Benson Park. 3-6 p.m. Free.
