NCDOT Awards Contract for Roundabout Project
8/30/2012

The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $624,187 contract to convert the intersection of Vandora Springs and Buffaloe roads in Garner to a single-lane roundabout. The project, awarded to Triangle Grading & Paving Inc. of Burlington, is scheduled to start Sept. 12, with the intersection closing on Sept. 17.

NCDOT and the Town of Garner worked together on the project planning, and the town is paying a share of the cost.

The roundabout will have a single 18-foot lane and is being installed to alleviate traffic-safety problems at the intersection, especially turning movements. The work means the intersection to be closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles. A signed detour will be in place using Old Stage Road, Woodland Drive and Timber Drive. To help traffic flow through the detour, a permanent traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of Woodland Drive and Old Stage Road.

The intersection is expected to reopen by Nov. 16, with the project finishing five days later.
