Public Open House on Roundabout Slated for Aug. 22
8/9/2012

The Town of Garner and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold a public open house from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at White Deer Park Nature Center (2400 Aversboro Road) to provide residents with information about the upcoming project to convert the intersection of Vandora Springs and Buffaloe roads to a single-lane roundabout.

The tentative construction schedule calls for the intersection to be closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles from about Sept. 17 to Nov. 16. A detour in place will use Old Stage Road, Woodland Drive and Timber Drive.

Residents may attend the informal open house any time during the hours listed above. Town of Garner and NCDOT representatives will display maps and be available to answer questions about the project, its design and the planned detour. Please note that there will be no formal presentation.

A map indicating the location and design of the project will be on display at the open house, and brochures about roundabouts and how to drive through them will be available.

NCDOT will manage the roundabout project and has worked with the Town in its planning. The roundabout will have 18-foot travel lanes with mountable interior curbs and will be designed to accommodate passenger vehicles as well as large trucks. The purpose of the project is to alleviate traffic-safety problems at the intersection, especially turning movements.

For general questions about the project or open house, please contact the Garner Planning Department at (919) 773-4449. For technical questions about the project, please contact NCDOT Resident Engineer David Moore at (919) 250-4202.
