Garner's 2017 Commercial Growth Second-Best in Wake County
It's no secret that Garner is growing rapidly. Not only has residential growth picked up considerably in the past couple of years—with the town's population now exceeding 30,000—but commercial growth continues on a fast pace as well.
According to an annual report recently issued by Wake County Economic Development and the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, Garner had the second-highest number of commercial construction permits last year in Wake County—trailing only Raleigh. The largest permitted projects last year were the Carillon Assisted Living facility off of Aversboro Road (approximately $4.3 million) and new office space owned by Mason Properties at 515 North Greenfield Parkway (approximately $2.2 million). Permits for the McCullers Walk apartment complex also accounted for much of the activity last year (approximately $1.9 million in value).
The report looked at commercial permits issued from January 2017 to last September. Garner issued 31 permits through that period. In late 2017, the Evolve at Timber Creek apartment project also came online with an approximate construction value of $2 million.
"The rise in commercial activity is a sign that the private sector is taking notice of Garner’s business-friendly atmosphere and is willing to invest in our community," says Garner Economic Development Director Joe Stallings. "This new commercial investment will lead to new job creation and help grow the tax base, ensuring that our community is able to provide high-quality services to our corporate and private citizens for years to come."
