"Garner Forward" Video Receives Another Honor
The Town's "Garner Forward" outreach video was honored by the American Planning Association's North Carolina Chapter at its awards luncheon on Sept. 28. The video received a Special Theme Award (Innovations), sharing that recognition with the City of Newton.
The video was produced and released in the summer of 2016 with the goal of encouraging residents to become involved in the updates to the Town's Comprehensive and Transportation Plans.
The video was distributed on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter and also was shown frequently on the Town's public, educational and governmental television channel. It reached thousands of viewers and helped direct over 1,100 respondents to a survey that partially guided the plan updates. The video also pointed residents to the Garner Forward website for the most up-to-date information about the plan updating process and opportunities for public participation.
Highlights of the updated plans have been presented to the Town Council, and the new documents should be finalized later this year. Details about the public review period will be released soon. The plans will shape Garner for many years to come.
The "Garner Forward" video previously earned awards from the North Carolina Association of Government Information Officers and North Carolina City and County Communicators.
The video can be viewed on the Town's YouTube channel.
