Town Wins Award for Popular Annual Financial Report
For the third consecutive year, the Town of Garner has received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR). The report was for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2016.
The Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting is a prestigious national award recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government popular reports.
In order to receive the award, a government unit must publish a PAFR whose contents conform to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability and reader appeal.
The judges “commented favorably on the overall layout and design of the [Town's] report," the GFOA said. They Town's “report contains useful information to allow readers to gain a better understanding of the environment in which the Town operates, such as government structure, population, major employers and major accomplishments,” the judges said. They also “lauded the Town’s efforts to notify the public of the availability of the report on its website, through the use of email blasts and Twitter and Facebook posts.”
The PAFR was primarily the work of Finance Director Pam Wortham and Communications Manager Rick Mercier. Most of the photos in the report were the work of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Assistant Director Rob Smith.
