The parking lot between the police station and library off of 7th Avenue will be closed for a few days starting Monday to allow for repaving work. The library book drop will be unavailable during that time. Access to police station and library parking will be through the Town Hall lot entrances on 7th Avenue (look for the Town Hall monument sign) and on Aversboro Road.

Boathouse Open for Season

The Lake Benson boathouse (975 Buffaloe Road) has opened for the season. Visitors can rent jon boats (with or without motor and battery), canoes and kayaks. They can also enjoy fishing from the dock for free when the boathouse is open.

Boathouse hours are Fridays noon-7 p.m., Saturdays 7 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sundays noon-7 p.m. (Friday operations are suspended in July and August.) 

Come experience Garner's best-kept fishing secret, or just enjoy getting out on this scenic lake right in the heart of our All-America City. The lake has plenty of bass, catfish, crappie and others types of fish. 

A jon boat without motor and battery costs $4 per hour or $20 daily. A jon boat with motor and battery is $8 hourly or $40 for the whole day. Canoes and kayaks are $5 an hour. 

A person must be at least 16 years old to rent a boat. There a maximum of three people per boat. Boats will not be rented out after 5 p.m., and all watercraft must be returned to the dock by 6:30 p.m.

Dock fishing and boat rentals are suspended during inclement or threatening weather.
