Post Date:01/12/2017 8:48 AM

UPDATE:  The pedestrian involved in this morning's fatal accident has been identified as James Demetrius Mims, 53, of Garner.

Garner Police are continuing their investigation into an early morning pedestrian accident that resulted in a fatality.  Investigators believe that around 6:15 this morning, a male subject was crossing Hwy 401 from Pine Winds Drive toward Purser Drive when he was struck by a vehicle.  It is believed that two other vehicles were also involved, one of which left the scene.  Police are asking anyone with information about the second, unknown vehicle, to call the Garner Police Department at 919.772.8810.  The name of the individual will not be released until the next of kin has been notified.  One lane of southbound 401 is now open.  North bound 401 currently has delays but all lanes of travel are open.  Garner Police crash re-constructionists are on the scene investigating the accident.
