Cost of Solid Waste Services Inches Up in Accordance with CPI
Per stipulations in the Town's solid waste and recycling contracts, All-Star Waste Services has requested that unit prices be adjusted to reflect the change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI). As a result, rates for solid waste services have increased by 2.4 percent effective Oct. 1. The increase is based on the seasonally unadjusted CPI for water and sewer and trash collections for all urban consumers, published by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.
For the Town's regular curbside solid waste collection, the increase will be absorbed into the Town's annual operating budget. But the increase will also apply to some special collection services that residents pay out of pocket — namely, collection of trash in excess of six yards, yard waste in excess of six yards and bulky waste in excess of 60 pounds per item.
