SPECIAL NOTICE: Mark your calendar to attend the Community Meeting Choice Assignment Plan on Tuesday, 1/17/12 at 6:30pm in East Garner Magnet Middle School auditorium. The event, organized by GEF and hosted by EGMMS, will feature WCPSS personnel answering questions about the WCPSS Assignment Plan and the Sign-up Process. This is the ONLY community meeting of this type in the Garner area, to date.

 

Join the Garner Educational Foundation in celebrating the skills and achievements of the students and staff in the eleven Garner-area public schools by participating in, attending or supporting:


Ongoing:

--SCOR volunteers working 30 minutes each week with a reading buddy.


Fall 2011 & Winter 2012:

--December 1, 2011: Come join Timber Drive Elementary School in their Celebrating Media Centers in Garner Schools appreciation fundraiser night at the Cary (NC) Barnes & Noble store.  Check back again for dates for upcoming dates for other schools


--January 31, 2012--Cooks for Books--The second annual GEF fundraiser, Cooks for Books, to support GEF literacy programs will take place Tuesday, January 31, from 5:30-8pm at Garner TV and Appliance. Tickets ($25 each or 2 for $40) entitle the holder to complementary food provided by local eateries and one free drink as well as samplings from the competing celebrity cooks and from the dessert contestants. Tickets are being sold by GEF Board members. Information on being a sponsor or for ticket purchase is available from Event Chair Amy White at singforhim@nc.rr.com. --March 10, 2012:  Plans have begun for the ninth annual Garner Storytelling Festival to be Saturday, March 10, at North Garner Middle School (720 Powell Drive, Garner) with the educator workshop in the morning and the storytelling festival with student performances in the afternoon for the entire family.  This event is hosted by the media specialists of the eleven local public schools with support from the Garner Educational Foundation and the Wake County Public Library-SE Regional Library.  Watch for details in Fall 2011.


--April 26, 2012: STARS on Stage, the annual event celebrating the performing arts achievements of the students in the Garner area schools will be held once again at the Garner Magnet High School gym. Information on times and tickets will be posted after January 1, 2012.


--Recognition Activities: Reception for award-winning educators will be held in conjunction with the Garner Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Garner.  Invitations to award winners will be mailed after January 2012.
