Celebrating Success:  Thanks to all who attended, sponsored, and in any way helped with the third annual Cooks for Books fundraiser on January 31. The theme this year, Cooks for Books “Game On” featuring game day faire, allowed attendees to enjoy tasty tailgate treats from the chefs as well as complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages from many local restaurants and vendors. A special thanks to Garner TV and Appliance for once again hosting the event.


Also, a big Thank You to the students, parents, educators, and community members who attended the tenth annual Garner Storytelling Festival on February 23. Over 140 students participated as storytellers, singers, or digital artists, joining featured professional storytellers Donna Washington, Hawk Hurst, and Chuck Killian in entertaining the audiences.


Join the Garner Educational Foundation in celebrating the skills and achievements of the students and staff in the eleven Garner-area public schools by participating in, attending or supporting:


Ongoing:

--SCOR volunteers working 30 minutes each week with a reading buddy. Volunteer as a SCOR Reading Buddy for the 2012-13 school year and realize the satisfaction of reading with a second grader once a week for 30 minutes. Contact Martha Liles at info@rand-bryanhouse.com for details.


Spring 2013:

--April 18: The eighth annual STARS on Stage is tentatively scheduled for Garner Magnet High School on April 18. This event will again showcase the performance talents of the Garner-area public school students. Check back for details.


--May 13: The 2013 Recognition Ceremony will combine several events held in past years. The 2013 ceremony, celebrating the achievements of educators, awarding scholarships to GMHS students, and honoring retirees of the 11 Garner-area schools, will be held at the Garner Performing Arts Center on May 13. Check back for details.


--May 19: The 2013 Baccalaureate will be held on Sunday, May 19, at Aversboro Road Baptist Church. GEF is pleased to announce that the guest speaker will be Tracy Bell, Associate Pastor of Poplar Springs Church. Check back for details.
