Ongoing:
--SCOR volunteers working 30 minutes each week with a reading buddy.
Spring 2012:
--April 26: STARS on Stage, the annual event celebrating the performing arts achievements of the students in the Garner area schools will be held once again at the Garner Magnet High School gym. The performance begins at 7pm with over 300 Garner area school students performing. Join us for a fun night and witness the success of the outstanding arts programs in the Garner schools. Tickets are a $5 donation at the door.
--May 20: Baccalaureate Service for graduation seniors of GMHS will be held on a Sunday, 3pm, at the Aversboro Road Baptist Church. Speaker will be John Meacham, former Chair of the Garner Educational Foundation and current lay preacher with the Presbyterian Church, USA.
--May: The annual Recognition meal for retirees from the Garner area school will be held in May. Details to be sent to identified retirees.

--January 29: The second annual Cooks for Books on January 29 was a tremendous success! Thanks to all the sponsors and those who supported the event by buying a ticket, attending, serving as a judge or celebrity cook, or donating food or drink. Click on Cooks for Books to check out the event details and watch for an upcoming posting of some of the dessert recipes enjoyed that night.
--March 10: The ninth annual Garner Storytelling Festival was held Saturday, March 10, at North Garner Middle School (720 Powell Drive, Garner) with the educator workshop in the morning and the storytelling festival with student performances in the afternoon for the entire family. This event is hosted by the media specialists of the eleven local public schools with support from the Garner Educational Foundation and the Wake County Public Library-SE Regional Library. Approximately 90 Garner area students joined professional storytellers Susana and Timmy Abell, Willa Brigham, John Golden, Cyndi Morgan during the afternoon Festival to entertain the attendees with their captivating stories and well-told tales of old.
--March 23: The final media center fundraiser was held at Barnes & Noble (Cary location) on Friday, March 23. The night celebrated Creech Road Elementary School and featured several musical selections, presentations by CRES storytellers, and a scavenger hunt for the students
--March 29: The Garner Schools Educational Achievement Awards program at the Garner Performing Arts Center was well-attended by the 31 honorees, their family members and guests, and community members. Sponsored by the Town of Garner, the Garner Chamber of Commerce, and GEF, certificates and gifts were presented to 11 Teachers of the Year, 9 Teacher Assistants of the Year, 7 National Board Certification educators, and 4 Special Award Presentations to educators receiving school system and state awards.
