Wreck It Ralph

Welcome from the Director:

2012 was a very exciting year for the Town of Garner Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department. Over the past year, several of our facilities, programs and events were awarded prestigious, local and statewide recognitions. White Deer Park was the recipient of the GOLD Stewardship Development Award from the Greater Triangle Stewardship Development Awards Program, a partnership that recognizes land developments that go beyond compliance in site design, construction and building techniques, and education to protect water quality, preserve natural habitats and open space, and enhance the fabric of the community. The park and LEED Gold certified Nature Center was honored for its greenways, interpretive trails and green building features.

The North Carolina Association of Festivals and Events awarded the Town’s newest special event, Trick-or-Treat the Trails, the Rising Star Award, which honors the best new event in the state. Trick-or-Treat the Trails was chosen based on the strong community partnerships created and for providing a unique experience for the citizen of Garner.

The department also received the 2012 Arts and Humanities Award, given by the North Carolina Recreation and Park Association, recognizing the efforts of the Town of Garner and Towne Players in offering a summer theater camp at the Garner Performing Arts Center. This is the second consecutive year that the department has won the statewide award. The previous year’s award recognized the collaborative efforts of the Town, the Garner Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and arts advocates to bring Broadway Voices to the Performing Arts Center.

The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department staff is striving to provide the citizens of Garner with the highest quality recreation programs and events not only in the Triangle, but across the state. As the weather warms we hope that you and your family will utilize many of our award winning parks and programs that help make “Garner a Great Place to Be!”
